Air Sealing

In our Canadian climate, properly installed insulation and a good air barrier, are mandatory. Unfortunately over the years, not many people took this seriously. We at Enerwise Zerodraft have been trained to find the trouble spots and remedy the problem.

Many people still think that as long as the insulation layer is thick enough, it will be fine. Finding moisture and moisture problems in attics is a daily occurrence for us.

Ice damming is an all to coming problem, and often mistreated. Ice damming always occurs when warm air from the living space enters the attic. Installing shingles with “ice & water shield” will not solve it. Neither will install more vents or "whirly birds". The opposite happens. More ventilation will suck more warm air through the gaps in the ceiling into the attic. The answer is; seal the attic floor!

Special 2 pound closed cell foam will be applied over all leaks, cracks and gaps. Plumbing stacks, bathroom exhausts are often not insulated or not properly vented outside. Moisture in the attic will destroy a roof quickly, and mold issues are a bog problem. CMHC predicts that 20% of all homes will have roofs that need to be replaced in the next 20 years.
